Bolador - A Brief History
Our catamaran, Bolador, was designed and built in Barbados by John Tempro. The construction began in Welches (near the fishing town of Oistins) in March 1987 and took approximately 18 months to complete.
It was during the building stage that John was often visited by a friend who had interest in the history of the island. During one of those visits, he brought a book about the early settlers to share with John. As he was turning the pages, John came across a beautiful photo of a flying fish with the words below "he who flies between air and water." The early settlers called flying fish 'Bolador' - this name was perfect!
Bolador was launched on August 31, 1989 from the beach just across from the building site. Bolador is known to be the fastest sailing catamaran on the island!
